With Erotica It’s the Quality, Not the Quantity

April 1, 2009

Just the other day I was spending some time surfing the ‘net, as I wont to do quite often, and I decided to check out some of our competition.

I perused the listing of erotica offered by Mobipocket Books at their website. I have to admit, I was quite amazed at the shoddy quality of the writing displayed in the blurbs and excerpts and the very cheap looking cover art on most of the erotica books there. I found such things as gang banging, anal sex, and other stuff I am just not into reading about. My tastes run more towards a fully developed plot, characters I can care about, and more than just sex between two people with the libidos of two bunnies.

That is what sets Carnal Passions apart, in my opinion. Our publisher, Ellen, only accepts high quality fiction and she packages it in a beautiful format with truly spectacular covers. This erotica is not cheap and sleazy fiction you feel the need to hide from your friends and coworkers.

And by the way, I just received my first review for Rancho de Mucho Caliente from Reading New Mexico. It’s a real keeper! Sabra says:

This novella (only 50+ pages) is a fun read. My only wish is that Lambert had taken the time to expand this into a full novel. Her characters deserved it and her writing talent deserved it, too.

So treat yourself and go check out some of the fantastic fiction at Carnal Passions today!

Bane Of His Existence-Coming March 18/09

Bane Of His Existence

New from Melody Knight. How do you like YOUR werewolves?

Charlie Ascott is a werewolf. He’s been cursed with the condition for the last four years, doesn’t recall the one who infected him, and has learned to live with it. The only thing he can’t quite handle is the lust he feels for a certain she-wolf. He catches her scent every month at full moon, but when it’s absent for a few days, he’s beside himself. Some day he intends to track her down, but he’s not ready for that “wolves mate for life” connection. When he catches a familiar scent in the elevator, he realizes it’s her—his she-wolf. Suddenly, he’s more ready for a connection than he realized.

Verity Connors is a manager in the company where Charlie works. She has been afraid of intimacy, of friendships, ever since she was bitten. She’s a werewolf, and she keeps to herself, focusing on her work to avoid letting instinct run away with her. When she meets Charlie, though, she decides she’s been playing solitaire far too long. It’s time to take a chance, and Charlie’s the one she wants to risk all with. The only way to do that, is to let instinct run its course.

Hot Shots Are Some Really, Really Hot Hunks

March 10, 2009

So, I’ve teased Ellen with the promise that in the upcoming months I am going to write a new story featuring a Hot Shot.

What is a Hot Shot, you might ask?Hot Shots

According to Wikipedia, Hot Shots are part of a crew of 20 or firefighters who are highly skilled and specially trained to fight wildland fires. They are considered an interagency, national resouce most often used in response to large, high-priority fires in remote areas. They work for extended hours and periods of time for various federal government agencies.  Their name comes from their ability to work in the hottest part of a fire. Requirements and training to become part of  Hot Shot crew is rigorous. They are often required to perform other duties in addition to suppressing fires, such as search and rescue, assisting in disaster response, forestry jobs, or function as onsite paramedics.

The National Interagency Fire Center says this: “These firefighters are generally given assignments on the toughest part of a fire and use a variety of specialized hand tools, including chainsaws and fireline explosives”.

What makes a Hot Shot stay in such great shape?

The  minimum physical requirements for a firefighter to become a Hot Shot are completion of a 3-mile hike carrying a 45 pound pack in under 45 minutes, an 1 1/2 mile run in 10 minutes 35 seconds or less, 25+ push-ups in 60 seconds, 40+ sit-ups in 60 seconds, and 7 pull-ups.

According to a 2002 study cited in a Montana State University article, “Hot Shot firefighters burn calories at levels equal to mountain climbers and combat soldiers”. One of the firefighters interviewed for the aticle stated that he “carries about 70 pounds of equipment, including a chain saw, fuel and tools. The terrain can vary from relatively flat to a 40 percent grade, and the shifts can vary from eight hours to up to 16 hours a day”.

I first came into contact with Hot Shots when I lived in New Mexico and worked at the family auto parts store. They came into town every summer to battle the wildfires prevalent in the surrounding wilderness areas. Some of them would frequent our store in their off time, buying parts to repair their equipment. Occasionally, they would get enough time off to relax for a night at a local bar, sharing beers and stories of their derring-do.

And oh, Lordy, ladies! These men were incredibly hot. They wore tight T-shirts straining against their massive shoulder and arm muscles, pants that showed off their cute, tight little butts, and all of them had really nice tans complement their handsome features. Is it any wonder I’ve had the hots for them all these years? Sheesh, I’m getting excited all over again just thinking about them. Summer’s coming…

Readers, what do you think? Is a story about a Hot Shot something you would want to read?

Love, Western Style

March 2, 2009

Rancho de Mucho CalienteWhat is it about cowboys and the West that have kept people fascinated by the lifestyle for over a century?

I’ve thought about this as both a resident of the west, an author of western erotica, and a reader who loves reading about it.  And, oh yes – a woman who thinks a cowboy is the sexiest man in the world.

I think it is the mystique of the Old West which still exists in some form today. Have you ever been in a store, or just visited a place, and run into a tall, dark, and handsome cowboy wearing a hat, a tight pair of Wranglers, a silver buckle on his belt, and a pair of well-worn boots? Who isn’t turned on by a cute little butt emphasized by a pair of Ws and arms muscular from working hard for a living? And how about the sight of a long, lean cowboy standing tall in the saddle? Can you say “yummy”?

And then there’s the demeanor of a cowboy. He is usually respectful and soft spoken, and says things like “Thank you, ma’am” and “Y’all”. He is polite and believes in treating a woman like a woman. Yet he’s tough as nails. He knows how to tame a horse and round up cattle. He can endure days, and even weeks, of discomfort which might fell another man.

Western cowboys can’t be fenced in. They love wide open spaces, the warmth of sunshine on their face, and the feel of a horse beneath their seat. They enjoy the smell of leather and hay and looking out at the horizon to see miles and miles of unspoiled countryside.

Of course western men, or even ‘cowboys’, don’t necessarily live only on ranches. I’ve met many a cowboy who worked as a firefighter, construction worker, or even a banker for a living. But their spirit, their personality, and their style were all purely cowboy.

This cowboy and his lifestyle is the main character I bring to readers with my short erotica stories – along with a better understanding of these proud, strong, Western men and the reason we women go nuts for ’em!

Hello world!

February 27, 2009

I am firmly of the opinion that Mother Nature is either a control freak or has a sick sense of humor.

Just when we start to think of all things warm and spring-like, she pokes her head up long enough to remind us that she is in charge. Mama Nature will decide when we get spring, and just to emphasize her point, what does she do? She dumps six inches of snow on us, and drops the weather to sub-zero temperatures. Nice lady, eh?

Now don’t get me wrong. I love winter. I love icicles glinting in the morning sun, clean white snow stretched out across the back yard, thick hoarfrost clinging to tree branches. I love the sound of snow crunching beneath my feet. I even love the way a frosty day can make the inside of my nose tickle.

However, there comes a time when I’m ready for warmer climes. I am so ready to abandon my thick winter coat, scarf, toque and mittens. I am so ready to pull out my new lightweight suede jacket that I barely got to use last year before the cold weather hit. I am so ready to sniff the aroma of freshly cut grass and flowers blossoming in gardens. And I can’t wait to be able to take long strolls along the river, without having to fear hypothermia. Yes, I am ready for spring!

Would someone please email Ma Nature with my request? She doesn’t seem to be listening to me.

‘Til next time,

Ellen
